Help to Buy Unlocks Property Ownership for Young Buyer

A young buyer with an eye for design has recently bought a one-bedroom apartment at Morgan Place on Neasden Lane in Willesden.

Giulia Villa, age 29, is a graphic designer originally from Italy, who had been on the look-out for an apartment for the last few years. As a single buyer, much of what she viewed was not meeting her expectations as she explains: “There was very little in my budget and what was available tended to be ex-council flats and were old and needed a lot of work. Those that I viewed needed completely new electricity and water systems and I would have to invest a lot of money and time in the properties to make them habitable. Buying on one salary is very limiting but then I found out about Help to Buy and it opened up many more options for me.”

Through Help to Buy, Giulia was able to purchase a brand new one-bedroom apartment at the Higgins Homes development Morgan Place. “I used to rent in Kilburn Park, which is fairly close, but I had never actually been to this area,” she explains. “I knew friends who lived nearby, and they explained how well connected it is, which is really important to me for having an easy commute to my work in Edgware Road and seeing my friends who live all over London.”

Morgan Place is ideal for commuters because it is located just 600m from Neasden London Underground Station on the Jubilee Line, with journey times of 22 minutes to reach Waterloo and a further three minutes to reach London Bridge. There are also plenty of local busses, which give direct routes to many places including the shopping centres of Brent Cross and Westfield and there is even a night bus.

“I had been wanting to buy my own flat for a number of years, but I was unsure of how much money I actually needed and what my budget would get me,” says Giulia. “I looked all over London, but I was disappointed with the flats that were in a commutable distance of London because the size and layout just didn’t work and anything more spacious was just too far out of town.”

Within all of Higgins Homes developments, the layout makes the most use of the square footage available and smart design offers a spacious and flexible layout. “This is a really good size apartment with a stylish kitchen and smart bathroom and because it is Zone 3 I’m able to travel really easily throughout London,” says Giulia. “This is a great location, really close to the Jubilee line, which is very reliable. It is a quiet area too and I’m just discovering all that it has to offer. I’m not far from Willesden Green where there is good shopping on the high street with many stores including Ikea. I like running and I often go to the park near Dollis Hill and it is just a great base to go anywhere in London.”

As a first-time buyer, and also being from another country and not familiar with the buying system in the UK, Giulia did have a number of concerns about the process. “Higgins Homes were really helpful, especially because the buying process is different in Italy. I was very unsure of what I was doing but now it feels really great to be in my own home. I’ve not fully done the maths, but I believe I’m paying less on my mortgage than I did in rent. But more importantly, being able to put my stamp on the flat in terms of interior décor is really lovely. I was never very confident about having friends over in rental accommodation but now I really enjoy entertaining and I’m currently sourcing beautiful Italian pieces of furniture to make it fully feel like home.”

The final apartment and former show flat at Morgan Place, a fifth (top) floor two-bedroom is available for £465,000 and is available to purchase through the Help to Buy scheme.
