Having already built her own ecological home, Dr. Alice ter Meulen immediately recognised the advantages of a newly built house that could generate its own electricity.
Dr. ter Meulen, a retired university professor, was keen to explore the Higgins Homes development Nørd One, after discovering its design incorporated the latest solar technology, generating renewable energy from roof-mounted photovoltaic panels and offering excellent insulation with double paned windows.
“I could see the property was well constructed, spacious and in a good location,” says Dr. ter Meulen. “The fact that the home can generate its own electricity was hugely appealing to me and, although I had viewed other new builds and renovated properties, this was the deciding factor in my purchase.”
Having previously lived in Covent Garden, Dr. ter Meulen was keen to find an area of London that could offer all she required for her retirement years: good air quality, excellent public transport, a friendly neighborhood, top notch shopping and a Sunday market.
Nørd One is a luxury new development positioned just minutes from Angel and Kings’ Cross/St. Pancras stations. Combining a central location that offers fantastic travel connections with a position on the edge of leafy Barnard Park, a green enclave in the heart of Islington, Nørd One is ideal for those that want a London lifestyle with a close, community neighbourhood combined with green landscaped views.
The small, enclosed squares make for a pleasant place to wander and dotted throughout are several welcoming gastro-pubs. Upper Street is only a few minutes walk away with its eclectic mix of bistros, boutiques and bars as well as cinemas and theatres.
“I’m looking forward to exploring Islington,” says Dr. ter Meulen. “I have already discovered Chapel Market as well as a beautiful community garden that will be pleasant in the warmer weather. Although I’ve not had time to fully investigate the locale, the shops on Upper Street are lovely and I’m looking forward to visiting them.”
Nørd One is a unique urban terrace of just five contemporary designer three- and four-bedroom houses. The thoughtful design features interiors crafted from natural materials and the attention to detail is evident throughout.
The luxury specification includes bathrooms featuring Carrara marble or silestone vanity tops, as well as bespoke concealed storage and heated mirrors and towelrails. The well-equipped German kitchen from London designers Urban Myth combines Terra Oak with Soft Pearl Grey doors and a slim Silestone work surface. The total effect is sleek, sophisticated and highly contemporary.
Just two houses remain available. A three bedroom house with direct park views at £1,450,000 and a four bed house of 1810sqft at £1,695,000
