Autumn is a wonderful season for aesthetics – the rich orange of the falling leaves, the bright blue skies of a crisp cool morning and the earthy tones in nature all around make for a stimulating and colorful experience every time we leave the house. However, it’s not just outside your home that autumn can make an impact, as this season provides great inspiration for interiors too. Accessories are a particularly easy way to bring some autumn inside, here are a few of our favourites.
There’s nothing that says autumn season, open fires and cosy nights in quite so much as a vintage leather piece. Whether you opt for a club chair or a weathered Chesterfield sofa, vintage leather in shades of chestnut or dark soil brown are the perfect autumn accessory for any space.
Colour is perhaps the easiest way to express autumn in your interiors and this year it’s all about the richer, darker shades of plum and Racing Green, deep chocolate brown and dark red. Choose a statement wall to introduce your autumnal colour palette or change the soft furnishings instead – cushions and throws, curtains and rugs can all alter the feel of a room.
When the colder months arrive we tend to crave the comfort of texture so add to your autumnal interiors this year with accessories that add lots of soft, natural, chunky fabrics and knits, as well as faux furs and traditional warm textiles such as velvet and cashmere. Contrast these with vintage wood accessories and the metal of the season, which this year is a warm shade of copper.
In the summer months we have a tendency to fill rooms with fresh flowers and, as many plants flower at warmer times of the year, it’s more associated with bringing nature indoors. However, there are some fantastic autumnal accessories provided by nature too – from seasonal holly branches through to pine cones, pumpkins and cut logs.
This year there are some great autumnal themes to accessorise with, from the indulgence of Art Deco luxe through to minimal graphic art in primary colours. Blue is also a hot trend so fill your home with accessories in tones of navy and aquamarine, denim and indigo ink. Scatter a few metallic accessories, from vintage silver vases through to gold, silver or bronze wallpapers, and you’ll have interiors that are not just autumn ready but on trend too.
