In 2014, Yelp chose Peckham as the most up and coming neighbourhood in London and there are some very good reasons for this. Over the past couple of years this area has grown into one of the new hip places to live and with that has come an influx of exciting bars and restaurants, as well as a vibrant nightlife scene. Peckham's convenient location has also made this possible, positioned just over three miles from Charing Cross and with connections via bus and train, it's right on the edge of the rest of the city and easy to reach areas like East London, the West End and the City.
Peckham is loved by those who live there for its unique character and there are many features of the area that give it so much individual personality the PeckhamPlex claims to be London's most successful independent cinema but you can still get tickets at prices much more reasonable than the big name venues. Peckham Rye Park and Common is one of London's best green spaces and the perfect antidote to the urban sprawl of the city or you can while away the hours at the South London Gallery, shop for vintage threads at the many vintage shops in the area or drop into the numerous artisan food shops that are popping up, from chocolate shops to butchers.
Eating and drinking has become something of a passion for those who live in Peckham, mainly because there's such a wonderful variety available. Street food, fantastic brunches, south Indian delights and unique hybrid menus like the Peckham Refreshment Rooms, which serves everything from a morning coffee and croissant through to French/Spanish tapas, have really started to give this area some personality. The nightlife scene here is also exciting with new spots popping up all the time.
Head for the legendary Frank's in the summer months and watch the sunset from the 10th floor of a multistory car park (more glamorous than it sounds) or make for the relaxed vibe of Bar Story under the arches near Peckham Rye Station for low cost drinking in style. There are also clubs here, two of which have begun to rival the East London venues that have become so popular in recent years try the Bussey Building or the Peckham Palais to experience the cutting edge of London's clubbing scene. There are many fantastic reasons to choose Peckham as a base, from the delightful cuisines to the lively nights out and the easy access to the rest of the city. It's certainly one of the most exciting places in London to live.
