Christmas is just around the corner and that means it’s time to start thinking about decorating your home. If you’re stuck in a bit of a decorating rut or you’re just looking for a bit of inspiration this year then here are some Christmas decorating ideas to help get your home super festive and ready for the holiday season.
Metallics – Christmas is definitely a time for sparkles and gold but if you want to try something a bit different this year – and seriously sophisticated – then theme your decorations in a single metallic and a single colour. White and silver go particularly well together and will give your home a coolly festive feel.
A wreath – it’s one of the most traditional Christmas decorations but many of us forget the front door wreath. This is actually very easy to make yourself with chicken wire, fir branches, pine cones and some tartan ribbon or there are plenty to choose from on the shelves in stores.
Paper chains – they’re cheap, recyclable and for kids (both big and small!) they’re really fun to make too. For a vintage party atmosphere paper chains are the ultimate Christmas decoration.
An alternative tree – if you thought the tree choice was between ‘real’ and ‘fake’ then think again, as there’s a whole range of different options when it comes to the Christmas tree. This year, why not keep it low key with a luxuriously decorated birch branch, hung with crystal pendants and sprinkled with gold dust? Alternatively, choose a traditional tree and add new style, whether that’s beads, all gold or a single colour theme.
All natural – Christmas is very much a celebration of winter, so bring nature inside this year with all natural decorations. Pine cones, mistletoe, oranges, dried berries on threads, holly and fir branches will all make your home look and smell fantastic.
Don’t forget the garden – this doesn’t mean hurling ropes of lights around every tree you own but turning your garden into a fun and festive outside space. Paper lanterns in festive colours, glittering tinsel, tiny sparkling lights in window boxes or hanging festive charms from your favourite tree can all increase the al fresco Christmas spirit.
Create a centerpiece – every Christmas table needs a breathtaking centerpiece so while you’re focusing on the turkey and sprouts this year, don’t forget the table. Poinsettias, bunches of vibrant red roses, pine cones, candles, sparkling metal ornaments that will catch the light and scented foliage will all give your table the edge.
