Oval is situated in Kennington, South London in the London Borough of Lambeth. Since it first began life as a market garden in the 17th century the area has grown into a vibrant and well loved part of London life, with some pretty famous landmarks within its boundaries.
The name originates from the first laid plans for the street structures, which were to be in the shape of an oval (although the plans were never carried out) and there is a local tube station serving the area that is connected to the Victoria line. Many people choose Oval as somewhere to put down roots thanks to its incredibly convenient position. Just 10 minutes by tube to the centre of London, this neighbourhood is perfectly placed for commuters, for families, as well as for those who want to make the most of everything that London has to offer by day or by night.
It is also part of London's 'cultural belt' that runs alongside the River Thames and includes The Southbank and Tower Bridge. Those looking for a leafy riverside location in which to find a property in which to settle will be perfectly suited to Oval's charms.
Of course, Oval is also the location of the famous Oval Cricket Ground (The Oval), home to the Surrey County Cricket Club and the first UK ground to host a Test cricket match. The last Test match of the season is traditionally played here in late August and there is a buzzy atmosphere in the neighbourhood when matches are scheduled.
For those who aren't cricket fans Oval still has plenty to offer, with a great selection of shops and restaurants and plenty to explore in the vicinity, including Kennington Park, The Imperial War Museum and nightlife hotspots such as Elephant & Castle nearby. The Oval Quarter is a Higgins Home new build housing development that is ideally placed to get the most out of living in Oval.
