Spotlight on Chigwell

Posted: 13 December 2013 by Higgins Homes

Essex has always been synonymous with a certain kind of glamour, particularly in the last decade thanks to various reality television shows that have upped its reputation and indeed popularity. The areas of Chigwell, Buckhurst Hill and Loughton are considered to be the county's Golden Triangle, with the latest addition of Brentwood.

Chigwell itself is a civil parish situated in the beautiful Epping Forest district of Essex. Just 12 miles northeast of Charing Cross and boasting two London Underground stations, it is an ideal location for anyone wanting a high-end suburban lifestyle within a stone's throw from the capital.

Traditionally a rural farming community, Chigwell is a town with a rich and varied history, with notable literary fame in Dickens' novel Barnaby Rudge, as well as a mention in the Domesday Book.

The expanding range of architecture has everything from weatherboard cottages to decadent 1930s houses and mock-Tudor homes. There are also a growing number of luxurious new developments as well as some impressive restorations of older buildings. For this reason, the staying power of local residents is rather high, with many people choosing to put down roots here in the knowledge that they can upsize and downsize accordingly.

The area is popular with footballers, ideally located for training at the nearby Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient clubs. Spacious new apartments next to the station provide a great option for commuters wanting to avoid the hustle and bustle of city life.

Local amenities are a far cry from the usual clusters of corner shops and key cutters, instead taking form as a selection of designer boutiques and spas. These are of course in addition to all the practical necessaries, such as a post office, pharmacy, bakers, train station and some highly sort after schools. The local pub was bought by Lord Alan Sugar and turned into a rather swanky Turkish restaurant. The man himself still lives in the area, along with many other well-to-do faces and their associates.

For anyone wanting to enjoy the great outdoors, Hainault Country Park offers 300 acres of woodland, ideal for dog walkers, horse riders and runners. The historical Epping Forest is also just a few miles away from the town centre.

Amongst the variety of property for sale in Chigwell is Ashbee Lodge. This exciting new development from Higgins Homes is a short stroll from the main station and surrounded by lush gardens. Built in the Arts and Crafts style, the building has the imposing and traditional appearance of a private house, complete with tall chimneys and dormer roofs. Within it are twelve luxurious and spacious apartments, finished to exceptionally high standards.

The Cavendish Collection, another development from Higgins Homes is also located in Chigwell. The development comprises of five large detached houses with beautiful countryside views.
