How to make the most of Bow in the summer

Posted: 21 May 2018 by Higgins Homes

British Summer Time is nearly upon us and for those planning a summer in the city, this means making the most of the weather with al-fresco dining, weekends in the park and beer gardens a plenty.

Sandwiched between Hackney and The City, Bow is home to Victoria Park and offers an ample opportunity to enjoy all of the above and more.

Get lost in a green space

The picnic is a quintessential British summer pastime and there are plenty of green spaces to choose from in East London including London Fields and Queen Elizabeth Park.

The biggest and best however, is Victoria Park, which offers 86.18 hectares of parkland with two lakes, a boating pond and The Pavillion restaurant and bakery, which serves great coffee and a decent breakfast.

The park also hosts a number of summer concerts and festivals including the brand new All Points East, a 10 day event that includes a 3-day festival, concerts and a community focused programme of midweek entertainment which is free all day every day!

Get Sporty

Summer is when we all want to be more sporty – and the perfect time to get fit. Head for Mile End Park Leisure Centre and Stadium for a dip in the pool or take one of the many fitness classes on offer.

The Children's Play Pavilion and Park has everything to keep little minds busy and children active on sunny days. Climbing frames, swings, a rope slide and a scrambling wall provide a way to burn off excess energy when the temperature rises.

Regents Canal towpath is also a great route to take a walk or cycle along while enjoying scenic views. The many establishments that run alongside also offer a great stop off point if you need a break.

Find your favourite pub garden

East London is a hot spot for pubs with plenty of outside spaces where you can enjoy a drink with friends. The People's Park Tavern backs onto Victoria Park and has a hacienda garden. If you want to enjoy the longer summer nights the Bloc E3 club is somewhere that offers a place to dance for the night.

Eat al-fresco

Summer is the perfect time to eat al-fresco and, with the outdoor space the Rusty Bike Club offers, it’s a great spot to enjoy your food while catching the sun. Other great places to enjoy your dinner in the warmth of the sunshine include The Morgan Arms and Royal Inn on The Park.
