Clissold Quarter wins accolade for Best Starter Home Scheme at the What House? Awards 2017

Clissold Quarter in Stoke Newington N4 has scooped a national accolade at the prestigious What House? Awards 2017 for the Best Starter Home Scheme category. The development, being delivered by Higgins Homes in conjunction with London Borough of Hackney, was praised for its efforts to provide new homes for first-time buyers and received a coveted bronze trophy.

The awards ceremony, known as the ‘Oscars of the housebuilding industry’, took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Friday 17 November.

Clissold Quarter – a successful regeneration project

Clissold Quarter is the regeneration project of the former Kings Crescent Estate comprising 158 high specification homes - the majority of which have been purchased through London Help to Buy. The judges’ report describes it as ‘one of those developments that first-time buyers probably won’t believe they can afford’.

Through London Help to Buy, which is available at the development for homes priced under £600,000, homebuyers only need to put down a five per cent deposit, with the government lending up to 40 per cent towards the full purchase price, which means a mortgage only needs to be arranged for the remaining 55 per cent.

Starter homes for local people

“It’s the affordability which has made this scheme such a success,” says Jeremy Marcus, sales and marketing director at Higgins Homes. “In addition we’ve actively stopped investors being able to make multiple purchases so we’ve been able to offer local people a real chance to gain a foot on the property ladder. We’re thrilled Clissold Quarter and our achievements has been recognised by such a prestigious national awards competition, and we look forward to delivering more new homes for first-time buyers in other locations across London.”

Over 95 per cent of the homes at Clissold Quarter have now sold. When complete in December, the scheme will not only deliver tenure-blind, affordable and energy-efficient homes set in high-quality landscaping – including allotments and play areas – in an integrated new neighbourhood, but residents will also have lifetime access to a car club.
