The house hunters guide to London

Posted: 28 April 2016 by Higgins Homes

Looking for a new home in London? There are some parts of the capital that are incredibly hot right now – here’s our guide to the areas of London that are perfect for house hunters looking for a beautiful new home in an exciting spot.

Stoke Newington

‘Stokie’ is an easy mix of families and young professionals, loyal locals who have lived in the area for decades and those looking for prime residential property with fantastic transport links. Clissold Park has held a Green Flag award since 2006 and Church Street remains one of the cultural reference points for the area – from art galleries, to great new restaurants – not just Stoke Newington itself but all around.

Islington

Islington is a perennial favourite for those looking for a new home in London because it has some of the best transport links in the capital and a cosmopolitan but friendly atmosphere that offers everything from green spaces, to great dining. Islington is known for attracting young professionals, particularly those with City jobs, but the friendly local community is also great for families too. Fantastic shopping, fun festivals, boutique cinemas and a mix of great properties means Islington will always be a great place to buy.

Oval

While it started out as a market garden in the 17th century, Oval has gone on to become one of the most up and coming property spots of 21st century London. Oval sits within London’s ‘cultural belt,’ whether for you that means the ever-changing programme of music and arts on the Southbank (which in summer also has its own beach), or the sporting events of the legendary Oval Cricket Ground, the first UK ground to host a Test cricket match. Just 10 minutes from the centre of the city, it’s a house hunter’s favourite for good reason.

Bermondsey

One of London’s flagship regeneration areas, Bermondsey has managed to fuse together the convenience and luxury of new developments with the cobbled streets and fascinating history of London’s historic past. Warehouse conversions sit alongside local authority buildings and family homes, and offices in the City are a short walk away. Bermondsey Street is the hub of the area, offering vibrant restaurants, independent shops and traditional pubs, as well as the legendary White Cube gallery.

Clerkenwell

With a perfect spot right on the edge of the City, Clerkenwell is one of London’s hottest areas for property hunters. Up and coming, with new properties, restaurants, coffee shops and shops appearing every day, this area also has plenty in the way of historic roots, from being renowned for everything from watchmaking to printing. Cool clubs and high end bars appeal to the cool crowd while outstanding schools tend to attract the area’s families.
