With direct views of The Shard, the city and the Barbican, it was clear why homebuyers Aaron Dunlop and his partner Sam Moutet fell for the East Central development.
Located in Clerkenwell at the heart of one of the most vibrant parts of London, the Higgins Homes development offers the very best of city living with a boutique collection of beautifully designed new homes.
Aaron, a chief operating officer at an investment company, wanted to live in a more central location to easily access all the city has to offer.
“Myself and my partner Sam both work in central London and we enjoy socialising there too,” explains Aaron. “We had been living in West Hampstead and felt that a move from the suburbs to a more central address would be a better fit for our lifestyles.”
East Central offers a desirable inner London postcode. It draws on the traditional architecture around Bloomsbury as well as the booming technological hub of Shoreditch to create a characterful development of attractive new homes.
With just 35 stunning apartments and penthouses, the homes offer contemporary architecture with stone and glass design, which reference the highly modern appeal of the area. Within this historic EC1 location with its Dickensian streets and alleys, there are contemporary shops and fashionable restaurants blending the traditional and cutting edge, to make it one of the most appealing areas for homebuyers.
“We weren’t set on buying a new build but we did know that we wanted Clerkenwell,” explains Aaron. “We visited many different properties but were disappointed to discover that the majority of homes were within huge tower blocks, which didn’t appeal to us. East Central is a small development so it feels much more personal.”
This was the first time that the couple had bought off-plan so did have some reservations as Aaron explains: “We bought very early on in the process so we didn’t 100% know what we were going to get. But we’ve found the team at Higgins Homes to be really helpful at every stage and the whole process has been smooth. Compared to buying a second hand property, it feels a lot easier. We know when we do get into the flat, there won’t be any nasty surprises which does sometimes happen when you buy an older home.”
Although Aaron and Sam bought off-plan, they could tell from the show apartment that their home was well-proportioned and light and airy thanks to the full height windows, which help to connect the indoor spaces to either a private balcony or terrace. The finishes were also of a high standard with the inclusion of smart and durable materials and apart from furnishing and adding a little colour, there is really nothing for the couple to do when they move in at the beginning of summer.
“We are really looking forward to living in this new location,” says Aaron. As well as the city views, the apartment looks over the playing fields which helps the whole development feel peaceful and relaxed because it is located on a quiet road.”
