Enjoy the best of both worlds on the commuter belt at Arboretum

According to the ONS’ latest census*, 21% of the city’s workforce are now choosing to live outside of London and travel into the capital. One such individual following this popular trend was Marc Kellinger, 42, who moved into Higgins Homes’ Arboretum development located in the picturesque commuter town of Epping.

After downsizing from his five bedroom property in Woodford, Marc wanted to move to somewhere where he could live with his two daughters, Aimee (8), and Ava (7), and still comfortably work in the city. He found the perfect work/life balance when he purchased his three bedroom terraced house at Arboretum.  

Marc comments: “I used to live in Woodford, so not too far away. I’ve always loved Epping. The location is great, there’s a high street with nice bars and restaurants, it’s near the countryside and it’s also near the underground with easy access to the motorway.”

As a Director of an IT consultancy company, Marc has to travel to his many different offices in London, Europe and Dubai, requiring a number of transport needs. Arboretum’s ideal location was a huge factor for Marc, he continues: “One of the main reasons I chose to move to Arboretum was due to its close proximity to a number of transport links. The development is very near to the train station so I can get to my London offices with ease. Along with this, the motorway is also nearby for me to get to the airport when I need to travel to my other international offices. I’ve always liked Epping as a location in general; it’s a village in its own right which means I get the best of both worlds, a quiet and picturesque area with an easy commute.

Marc takes great pleasure from the fact that his property at Arboretum is a new build. He continues: “I chose everything from the kitchen to the bathroom and flooring; buying off plan allowed me to make it personal and opt for the best quality fittings. Being a new build gave me peace of mind as everything is brand new; I didn’t want to enter a house which may have hidden problems.”

Marc purchased his property off plan in May 2014 as soon as the development was announced, making him one of the first to do so. As a previous off plan buyer he was already aware of the process, and advised: “It’s a way of guaranteeing the property you like. With so many developments cropping up and the high demand you’re going to be disappointed if you don’t get in there early. If you’re keen on the area where you want to be you have to make a decision fast.”

Marc describes the customer service experience and overall buying process at Arboretum, “It’s been excellent; I can’t fault it even after moving in. The staff at Higgins Homes are in contact with me on a regular basis and very knowledgeable. They have been honest throughout the entire process from the moment I walked into the show room. The customer experience was not only excellent prior to completing the purchase; it continues to be so afterwards.”

Since the launch of Arboretum, the large scale development is already 80% sold and, once complete, will comprise 149 new homes ranging from two bedroom apartments to three, four and five bedroom houses. Just a ten to fifteen minute walk from the development, Epping underground station runs regular central line services to Liverpool Street in just 37 minutes and to Oxford Circus in no more than 47 minutes. The nearby M11 and M25 motorways also provide an easy route to surrounding the towns and greater London.
