The Great Family House Shortage
Story posted: 16/03/2010
The shortage of large, detached housing in the UK has been become so significant that it was recently described by a national newspaper as, “The Great Family House Shortage”.* For the last ten years developers have been guided by the government’s PPG3 legislation, which favoured high rise flats over detached houses. Now the discrepancy between the supply of and demand for larger properties is so great that developers, such as Higgins Homes, are going against the grain trying to stem the shortage.
Surrex Grange is a brand new collection of just 10 Georgian style houses, which are situated on a rural country lane on the fringe of the popular village of Coggeshall, Essex. The environmentally friendly homes range from 1,624 to 1,750 square feet in size, and each property also has a garage and substantial gardens.
Jeremy Marcus, Sales and Marketing Director, Higgins Homes, comments: “Higgins Homes always endeavours to provide the right housing for the right location, and our new site Surrex Grange is a prime example. Small developments of large, detached houses are increasingly rare, and yet in villages like Coggeshall, that is exactly what people want. We have already had a great deal of interest in these homes and we are not expecting them to stay on the market for long.”
As well as being fantastic, spacious homes, the properties at Surrex Grange utilise innovative heating technology which reduces energy costs and cuts CO² emissions by 25%. Each house is fitted with a contemporary kitchen from a leading designer Urban Myth, which incorporates a stainless steel oven and hob, an integrated fridge/freezer and a dishwasher. The separate utility room also includes Urban Myth designer units, a free standing Smeg washing machine and a tumble dryer.
The historic market town of Coggeshall is a popular commutable location and was named Eastern England and the Homes Counties’ village of the year in 2003. Just three miles from the development is Marks Tey railway station, where regular direct trains to London Liverpool Street take just 56 minutes.**
The development is due to be released for sale in April with prices being set shortly before. For further information please contact the sales and marketing suite on telephone: 020 8508 6000.
