In accordance with Government targets, set by the Kyoto Protocol, 100% of all new properties will have to meet new stringent energy targets. These are aligned to the Code for Sustainable Homes. Award winning Essex based developer Higgins Homes, has been designing to high ecological standards on a number of their developments for some time, which in turn has helped to reduce carbon emissions.
Malcolm Wallace, Head of Design, Higgins Homes, comments: “Higgins Homes has consistently been at the forefront of modern design and by adhering to governmental guidelines for over a year, we are continuing to take the initiative. The global challenges we are facing need to be addressed, and housing in the UK needs to be more ecologically efficient.
“We are now using some really exciting energy saving technology in some of our new developments, such as heat pumps, heat recovery systems and solar panels for creating hot water. These methods not only cut carbon but they also cut fuel bills, and purchasers will reap the benefits.
“Creating contemporary, high quality, environmentally friendly housing at affordable prices, is not an easy task, however with developments such as The Old Hospital and Surrex Grange, we are already achieving this.”
Higgins Homes is renowned for its sensitive approach to new homes projects. There is no such thing as a typical Higgins Home; each is designed to complement its surroundings and the local architectural heritage, and most are within easy commuting distance of central London.
