Downsizing to the City
Story posted: 26/10/2009
Life expectancy is hitting record highs*, but the new generation of retirees are not just living longer, they are also more active. As a consequence, downsizing to towns and cities is becoming a popular trend. Lady Gillian and her husband, traded their beautiful country house for a modern apartment in Higgins Homes’ centrally located development Ice, in Stevenage, and now couldn’t be happier with their new lives!
Gillian, who used to run a consultancy office in North London, comments: “I loved my old house, and I was very nervous about selling it and losing the space, but we rattled around in the place and I wanted to be near my daughter in Stevenage. When we saw Higgins Homes’ development I was immediately so impressed, it is like a lovely hotel! The communal areas are gorgeous and our apartment is beautifully finished and very spacious and bright. “We are also right in the centre of everything, so we go out a lot more than we used to and have so much fun! We are also walking distance to the theatres, restaurants and shops, so we really enjoy all that Stevenage has to offer. Part of the year we also go to America to visit our other daughter, and I feel very happy about the security in the building. We are thrilled with our new apartment and busier lives, I feel like I’m permanently on holiday!”
ICE comprises 238 contemporary one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses. The sweeping architectural design dominates the urban landscape and incorporates glazing, staggered roofing and sleek curved finishes. Internally each apartment has a designer Urban Myth kitchen, fitted with stainless steel appliances, including an electric oven and chimney hood, a ceramic hob, an integrated fridge/freezer and washer/dryer. Most apartments also have a balcony or patio, and every apartment comes with a parking space in the underground car park.
ICE is located near the centre of historic Stevenage Old Town, which has a range of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants. Stevenage railway station is under half a mile away from the development and from there, trains to St Pancras take just 30 minutes**.
