Multi-award winning Essex house builder, Higgins Homes, has received four accolades at the 2011 UK Property Awards, including the enviable Best Apartment UK award for the second consecutive year. The glittering property awards ceremony was held at the prestigious Lancaster Hotel, London, on Friday October 28th.
The average age of first time buyers in the UK, without parental assistance, has risen to 37, proving that it is harder than ever to own your first property. A combination of tough mortgage criteria, higher deposit requirements and lower salaries has led to a steady fall in the number of people who can afford to purchase their first home. In a bid to help young purchasers however, Higgins Homes has introduced the Step Up scheme – a creative incentive that assists first time buyers with their deposit needed when they buy their first property.
Most people choosing between a new and older property don’t think about the hidden costs of the latter and many presume it is more expensive to buy a new home. However for first time buyers Cathlyn Day and Matthew Cappell, not having to worry about repairs, upgrading, or sound and heating insulation, were among the advantages of buying a new-build property. When the couple found the apartment they wanted at Higgins Homes’ ICE development in Stevenage, the new-build warranty and evident quality of design were important considerations. Together with the advantageous deposit scheme offered by Higgins Homes, the couple knew they were in a win win situation.
